(More customer reviews)Enfamil Premium Lipil Formula is the same as the previous flagship Mead Johnson formula--Enfamil Lipil--except that it has "prebiotics" added in. Our son was on Enfamil Lipil from September 2007-September 2008. He was breastfed and formula fed during this time. Our daughter, who is due in January 2010, will also be breastfed and formula fed for her first year of life. We tried two other formulas with our son--Similac Advance and Parent's Choice. The Similac was fine but clumped badly. During the time we experimented with the Parent's Choice formula, my son was consistently troubled by colds and the flu. I think the Parent's Choice formula lowered his immunity somehow and will never use it again. I believe that Mead Johnson's decision to use prebiotics is a good one. Our son had colic/acid reflux in part because his digestive system was not yet populated with the good bacteria for breaking down milk proteins. He was a lot more comfortable after we started putting a little Culturelle (a probiotic) in his formula in the evening. And since a lot of our immune system is in our digestive tract, he had fewer sick days after introducing the Culturelle. Probiotics and prebiotics will also help infants rebound from the negative effects of antibiotics like amoxicillin quicker.
Regarding the bpa found in formula can liners, I talked to an Enfamil customer service representative who told me that Mead Johnson now uses cans that are lined with a "modified polyester" that is bpa free. Similac Advance Earlyshield comes in a bpa-free can also (the SimplePac container).
Another concern parents have is the cost of formula. Name brand formulas are expensive! But if you think about it, you are feeding a human being for about $15 a week (a can usually lasts us 1.5 to 2 weeks). $15 a week is peanuts compared to what a hungry teenager devours! And with name brand formulas you are getting the absolute best product available--Bill Gates couldn't buy a better formula than what's on the shelves at Target or Wal-mart.
If you are a new parent and feel overwhelmed by the infant formula section of your grocery store (as I was in September 2007), I suggest starting with the flagship formula of either Mead Johnson (Enfamil Premium Lipil), Abbott Laboratories (Similac Advance Earlyshield), or Nestle (Good Start Gentle Plus or Good Start Protect Plus). They are all excellent infant formulas. You just have to see what works for you and your baby.

(More customer reviews)Our daughter has severe GER and we tried everything from prilosec to every formula out there enfamil, similac, etc... As last resort our pediatrician said to try Neocate. We have been using it for a month and all symptoms are gone. It's very easy to mix and daughter loves it.
Only thing is its expensive so if you can get your insurance company to cover it that will help. Some states have laws that force them to cover it with a doctors note.

(More customer reviews)Upon lots of experimentation, we found Nestle Good Start Soy as the best formula for our baby boy. We used Good Start Soy so far. Very recently we upgraded to Good Start 2. No problems at all. The best time for this upgrade is when your baby is on first foods for a while. but not eating enough of it. Our pediatrician recommended frequent feedings. That works semi-successfully for the day-time with attention and mood problems. During night, especially before sleep-time, feeding of Good Start 2 is very effective to put him down for 6 hrs at least. (We have one very active baby). Good Start 2 has worked out as a very effective strategy to fill the nutrition gap.
It is not very easy to find big cans and even small cans of Soy products in popular superstores and grocery chains. If you do, the price varies as much as $3-$5 per can from one place to the other. Amazon's 24 Oz. 6-pack is the best deal with free shipping. You pay about 84 cents per ounce. If you go for one size bigger 6-pack 25.6 Oz cans, you pay 93 cents per ounce.

(More customer reviews)We are still undecided about using whole milk or organic whole milk, and Similac 2 has been great for the transition. We started using it at 11 months, mixing half Similac 2 and hald Similac Advance. I do recommend always mixing half and half when changing formulas/milk. (Unless, of course, you are changing formulas due to feeding intolerance.)
Also, this is very easy when traveling and going out for the day. No need to worry with keeping whole milk cold.
I have been very happy with both Similac Advance and Similac 2! I think that Similac is much easier on tummies than Enfamil.

We tried everything including soy, Nutramigen (spelling?), gas drops, etc. Nothing worked until we tried this formula. After a week of constant use of this formula, all problems ceased and she became a happy, smiling child instead of a constantly wailing and spewing baby. There are 3 significantly different processes used in USA by mfg to hydrolize protein and just because one results in MSG, does not mean all processes do. We started out with Similac, but she would fight the bottle and she would get really gassy. We switched her over to Good Start and what a difference. She gobbles it down with no problems. I'm breastfeeding my son, but we supplement with this formula so my husband can feed the baby (I don't always have enough pumped for a bottle) and for convenience. It is very helpful to have a bottle handy when I'm waiting at the register at the supermarket and the baby is crying to be fed. I love these little, ready-made bottles because they are the perfect size and there is no mixing needed - just shake, open, screw on a nipple, and feed the baby.
These don't come with nipples, but you can use regular bottle nipples or get disposable nipples separately. You can buy about 50 disposable Similac nipples from the Abbott store online or use Enfamil disposable nipples (I've used these - they fit fine), which they sell on Amazon.com in packs of 10 or 25.
I have two nipples in a ziplock bag and 4 bottles in my diaper bag at all times. There are cheaper feeding options, but for convenience I can't recommend these enough!

(More customer reviews)Firstly, I've used this product with both my younger sons and have never had any problems with it. We started it on the advice of our pediatrician to use as a supplement because he suspected my son had acid reflux and it worked as a charm!
Secondly, I find that the smaller containers are better since you are meant to finish it within I think a week after opening, which means that you are better off with the smaller container, depending on how much your child eats obviously, but even price-wise it's smarter.
Thirdly, and I know this may not apply to everyone, but it is Kosher and DAIRY FREE (Parve), which is VERY VERY VERY hard to find in formula, which pretty much makes this an only choice for many special need kids, or even many who aren't special needs but need formula that isn't dairy.

And finally, I am surprized that [...] prices are actually higher than all the local groceries, [...], etc. I hope they bring their prices down so that all of us can happily buy it from them in the future.

(More customer reviews)First off, the bottles DO NOT contain BPA. The lids are coated in an epoxy that does, but there is another layer over that to help protect the BPA from getting to the formula. I actually called Similac's parent company to verify this.
Yes they are expensive, but I get coupons all the time from Similac and use those to buy these bottles. They are wonderful for camping, fishing, or any other time sanitation may be an issue. All you have to do is attach your own nipple and ring. Much less to wash.
Though they are really not made to do it, you can punch out the center from the ring and put in a standard nipple. It seems like it will leak, but it doesn't. Then you can just throw the whole thing away.
