Enfamil Nutramigen 16 oz. Powder Case of 6 Review

Enfamil Nutramigen 16 oz. Powder Case of 6
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Our son had feeding issues with regular formula, so we switched to Nutramigen, which he seemed to take much better. So we were satisfied at the time. However, later on, our son was diagnosed with PDD-NOS (on the autism spectrum). If you look up Dr. Russell Blaylock's work (he's a neurosurgeon and nutrionist), he lays out the risks of excess glutamates (what he calls excitotoxins) that would have a neurotoxic effect on a developing child's brain (I recommend the video at the bottom of this link: [...]). We just found out that Nutramigen has an extremely high level of glutamatic acid compared to other infant formulas (see [...], cross linked from the prior website referenced). There is absolutely no conscionable reason for any infant formula to have such high level of glutamic acid. Do your own research and be forewarned. We were not.
[UPDATE 2 YEARS AFTER ORIGINAL REVIEW: while I do not think at this point this formula was the cause of PDD-NOS (my hypothesis now is that it was caused by antibiotics given at 2 weeks of age on the advice of by a rather negligent pediatrician), I do think that one needs to weigh the cost / benefits of using this formula. Truth of the matter, b/c of the antibiotics which ruined my child's gut ecosystem, he developed leaky gut and a milk allergy as a result. There may have been no alternative but this formula, which he tolerated much better than anything else. So for that reason, the alternative being starvation (and he was awfully thin in any event due to his impaired gut), this was the best (and hence only) option available. Being high in glutamic acid is still a concern. As a parent, one should be informed as to the effects of various foods your child ingests, as different foods have different phisiological effects. One may find ways to mitigate the negative effects of glutamic acid as a result. For any parent who needs to use sensitive formula, I encourage them to look into leaky gut, explore the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, the Body Ecology Diet and the GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) Diet. They will help your child when they are old enough to eat solid foods, and following that diet will help heal any leaky gut problems you have (does take time and is a lot of hard work, but we're seeing real progress). Good luck to all.]

He obviously does not know that sugar is in all formula and in all milk. The fact that the sugar in Organic Similac is from cane sugar and not corn syrup makes a world of difference. By feeding your child Organic milk you are keeping the fertilizers, pesticides, and antibiotics out of your child. FYI, ingredients in fertilizers and pesticides which are transferred to regular milk cows through eating the grass and in turn consummed by your child are CARCINOGENS. More importantly, your child will not ingest the antibiotics given to regular cows which lowers the affectiveness of antibiotics given to your child when he or she needs them.

Traditional Medicinals Women's Liberty Tea, 16-Count Boxes (Pack of 6) Review

Traditional Medicinals Women's Liberty Tea, 16-Count Boxes (Pack of 6)
Average Reviews:

This tea by no means is a fertility tea! By doing some research, none of the contents "help" you to get pregrant. In fact, one of the main ingredients, wild yam root, has contraceptive properties and was one of the first ingredients used in contraceptive drugs. If anything wild yam root results in pregnancy reduction, but no contraceptive is 100%, it has to be used properly for results. Wild yam root helps to produce progesterone, which keeps levels of estrogen balanced as well. All these hormones regulate cycles, for example how light or heavy a period is. Aside from balancing hormones, this tea also builds blood. This is great for people like me, who periodically suffer from what chinese medicine calls 'blood deficiency' or anemia. The herb responsible for this is dong quai which is called the "female ginseng". This herb is awesome. It does help with PMS symptoms, menstrual cramps and many other benefits but it also helps build red blood cells, which most women lose a lot of during their periods. In most cases, we end up feeling exhausted due to blood loss. This tea helps to replenish what we lost, so we can feel good and energetic again. It works so much better than taking iron supplements and has no side effects. I do like this formula because other formulas that are on the market, made by different companies, have ingredients specifically for PMS. For example getting rid of water weight and bloating. I use this formula throughout my entire cycle. So, I don't need to get rid of water weight for the rest of the month. I really like this tea, taste and all. It's a winner for me. Great stuff!

I formula fed my baby since she was born and really struggled to find a formula that didn't constipate. We tried Enfamil Premium, Similac, Sams Club Gentle Protein, and finally Nestle Good Start Supreme. All produced hard stool with the exception of the Good Start Supreme (orange can). While my daughter still struggles somewhat with gas, the loose stool is much more preferred for her at this young age (six weeks) than the other formulas.
We also tried the Nestle Good Start Protect Plus (green can) and this really upset my daughter's tummy. We were disappointed since we would love for her to have that extra immunity support, but at this age it seems the orange can is the only thing that she can tolerate.

My daughter had such bad diaper rash that she had sores on her bottom. We tried EVERYTHING!!!! It got so bad we had to go once a week to the doctor for medication and "prescribed" diaper creams...nothing worked. Got the Dr. Smiths idea from another mom....in 4 days her diaper rash cleared up and we were able to keep it at bay with Dr. Smiths. This is the best kept mommy secret ever. Due to the cost we only used Dr. Smiths when it looked like a diaper rash may start or in the summer for heat rash. I even found the product works great on my older children and myself for irritation, heat rash and other irritations. When I say this is Gold in a Jar....I'm not kidding!!! I know give this as a baby gift to all new mommies...never fails I get a call of thanks within the first 6 months and a "this stuff is great...I'm so glad you turned me on to Dr. Smiths!" No need for Dr. Smiths "rash" care...this is it!!!!! Good luck and Happy bottoms!

I was using Kirkland brand formula because it's cheap and good quality. Target is a much more convenient place to shop, so I was so excited when I discovered their formula. It's about $1 more than Kirkland but half the price of Similac. Nutritional values are the same, and it has a good consistency. A big plus is that Target's brand doesn't foam up like Kirkland does, so I know my baby is actually getting the number of ounces I'm making for her. I definitely recommend!

Enfamil Premium LIPIL Powder Formula for Infants, 23.4-Ounce Cans (Case of 6) Review

Enfamil Premium LIPIL Powder Formula for Infants, 23.4-Ounce Cans (Case of 6)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Enfamil Premium Lipil Formula is the same as the previous flagship Mead Johnson formula--Enfamil Lipil--except that it has "prebiotics" added in. Our son was on Enfamil Lipil from September 2007-September 2008. He was breastfed and formula fed during this time. Our daughter, who is due in January 2010, will also be breastfed and formula fed for her first year of life. We tried two other formulas with our son--Similac Advance and Parent's Choice. The Similac was fine but clumped badly. During the time we experimented with the Parent's Choice formula, my son was consistently troubled by colds and the flu. I think the Parent's Choice formula lowered his immunity somehow and will never use it again. I believe that Mead Johnson's decision to use prebiotics is a good one. Our son had colic/acid reflux in part because his digestive system was not yet populated with the good bacteria for breaking down milk proteins. He was a lot more comfortable after we started putting a little Culturelle (a probiotic) in his formula in the evening. And since a lot of our immune system is in our digestive tract, he had fewer sick days after introducing the Culturelle. Probiotics and prebiotics will also help infants rebound from the negative effects of antibiotics like amoxicillin quicker.
Regarding the bpa found in formula can liners, I talked to an Enfamil customer service representative who told me that Mead Johnson now uses cans that are lined with a "modified polyester" that is bpa free. Similac Advance Earlyshield comes in a bpa-free can also (the SimplePac container).
Another concern parents have is the cost of formula. Name brand formulas are expensive! But if you think about it, you are feeding a human being for about $15 a week (a can usually lasts us 1.5 to 2 weeks). $15 a week is peanuts compared to what a hungry teenager devours! And with name brand formulas you are getting the absolute best product available--Bill Gates couldn't buy a better formula than what's on the shelves at Target or Wal-mart.
If you are a new parent and feel overwhelmed by the infant formula section of your grocery store (as I was in September 2007), I suggest starting with the flagship formula of either Mead Johnson (Enfamil Premium Lipil), Abbott Laboratories (Similac Advance Earlyshield), or Nestle (Good Start Gentle Plus or Good Start Protect Plus). They are all excellent infant formulas. You just have to see what works for you and your baby.

Like you we want your baby to be happy and healthy right from the start. That's why we go beyond just stating health benefits. We prove them with clinical results in three important areas--healthy growth, brain/eye development and immunity.
